Getting to Melaka by Bus

Even though Melaka has an international airport (MKZ) which was recently upgraded to accommodate 1.5 million passengers annually, but currently, there are only 2 commercial airlines flying into Malacca International Airport – Wings Air and Riau Airlines, from Pekanbaru.
So, in most cases, your best option for getting to Melaka, is by road transportation. In terms of public transport, Melaka has a bus terminal – Melaka Sentral, which is very comprehensive with its connecting routes.

You can practically get to Melaka, from any main town in Peninsula Malaysia (East and the West coast), as well as Singapore and the Southern part of Thailand (Hatyai), by express buses.

Getting to Melaka from KLIA/LCCT by Express Bus

For getting to Melaka from KL International Airport (KLIA) or Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) by express bus, your best option is Transnasional, if your flight’s scheduled arrival matches Transnasional’s. The journey takes about 2 and a half hours, and currently, there are 5 daily trips scheduled. You may refer to the online booking site for the latest information.
It doesn’t worth the journey getting to Melaka from Kuala Lumpur (KL) city, unless you are stopping over in the city as part of your itinerary. It takes 1 hour getting to KL from LCCT/KLIA by express bus, and another 2 hours to Melaka; also not forgetting, the transition time between the stops.

Getting to Melaka from Kuala Lumpur by Express Bus

Last time, buses from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka Sentral were using the Puduraya Bus Terminal. However, since year 2011, all South-bound buses are using the new Terminal Bersepadu Selatan at Bandar Tasik Selatan.
There are quite a number of bus operators operating the Kuala Lumpur – Melaka route. For example: Transnasional, K.K.K.L, Metrobus, Delima, Jebat Express, Mayang Sari, Nice Executive Coach, Maju Express, and etc. With so many options around, you can practically expect a bus leaving for Melaka Sentral every 30 minutes. Transnasional and K.K.K.L are the more reputable ones. Each trip takes about 2 hours of non-stop journey.
However, don’t ever under estimate the demand. This route can get very busy during weekends and public holidays, especially festive seasons. You are advised to try securing your bus tickets in advance, in order to avoid disappointment.

Getting to Melaka from Singapore by Express Bus

There are a number of bus operators offering a few daily trips between Singapore and Melaka Sentral. However, the departure point in Singapore is differing from among different operators.
  • 707 Express: Queen Street Bus Terminal
  • Delima Express: City Plaza, Geylang Road
  • StarMart: Golden Mile Complex, Beach Road
Each trip takes about 4 hours.

Getting to Melaka From Genting Highlands by Express Bus
